POETRY

Mary Lou I said
has it come into your head.
that the life you've led
has left you half dead?
She sipped her drink
and continued to think
about her empty life.
Always a lover, never a wife.
The years slid down hill,
day faded into day,
drink into drink, pill into pill,
what a price to pay.
If only they had told her
when she was young and pretty,
that life in the fast lane,
only leads to self pity.
There was nothing she could do,
understand it or not,
her life was a ferris wheel,
she could not stop.
Life was a fair,
she played, she paid.
The day the ride stopped
nobody was there!
